New production location substrate and potting soil
Jiffy International is a leading global supplier of environmentally friendly propagation systems, hydroponic systems, pots and substrates for the horticultural sector. At the new location in Zwijndrecht (NL), peat soils and other raw materials will be supplied, processed and mixed into high-quality substrates for growers.
Project description
Jiffy’s substrate product locations were merged into a single location on the Groote Lindt industrial estate. To this end, the company built production halls of approximately 27,000 sq.m. and 550 sq.m. office space at this location.
The challenge
The dock had to be converted into a seaport to accommodate coasters-vessels to dock. Uticon was given the honour of providing technical support for this project, both in terms of construction and process installation.
The solution
Robert Kreukniet, alderman for economy of the municipality of Zwijndrecht, was pleased with the company’s choice to establish itself in Zwijndrecht. “The arrival of Jiffy offers a wonderful boost to our local economy and employment. It also demonstrates the strength of the unique location of our business parks, which are located along motorways and water”.
Jiffy’s new production site was completed at the end of December 2016 and has created around 100 new jobs. The construction project involved an investment of between €25 and €35 million.
